SOAP BARREL CO. LLC
began as an educational project
in 2007 in our Henke Homeschool. Students Eric and Joel, as well as our mom Jennifer, a talented
business education instructor, started from scratch learning how to make soap, to set up the business, to investigate
similar products in the marketplace, and to design our own look. Our soaps have a bold, natural look and are packaged
with our barrel logo.
With lots of excitement and full of anticipation, we registered our business. Our
days and nights were filled with talk about soap. Eric at age 14, made our soap molds and wood burned the company name
on them. He also meticulously measured the soaps and designed and built wooden displays which we offer to retailers.
Joel at age 11, who enjoys drawing, designed our logo. Then Eric transferred the logo to the computer
for use on labels. Everything came together when we printed our first label and put it on a cured bar of soap.
Joel drew "Mike," the kids' line cartoon,
who adorns Bubble Gum, Gingerbread, and Vanilla Cupcake soap. Our barrel logo and "Mike" were recently
registered with the government and trademarked. Yay!
The Soap Barrel homeschool now includes advanced business
skills, like taking inventory, ordering products, selling, invoicing, stocking local stores, shipping, and quality control.
In October, we opened a retail store in Beulah, Michigan, and have a fantastic time arranging soap in our sixteen foot
display window.
Soap Barrel Co. promotes work ethics and Christian values, along with great
times making our products...for you.
Enjoy!
